Assemblyman Ari Brown Stands with Highway Crews Calling for Funding to Fix Crumbling Local Roads, Highways
Assemblyman Ari Brown (R-Cedarhurst) joined a bipartisan group of legislators from both houses and highway crew members and superintendents from across the state today at a rally in the Capitol calling for more funding in this year’s budget to fix our deteriorating roads, bridges and culverts. The group is asking for an increase to the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS), which Gov. Hochul has proposed not to increase in the state budget due April 1.
“Our local highway crews and municipal workers are out there day and night paving roads and fixing potholes and Albany needs to step up and do their part to fully fund their efforts,” Brown said. “In a budget that’s expected to be over $220 billion, it’s unacceptable to make safe and reliable roads a bottom-tier priority as the governor has proposed. I am calling on the governor and legislative leaders to fully fund CHIPS this year and make our travel safe and dependable again.”
The New York State Association of County Highway Superintendents and New York State Association of Town Superintendents of Highways, Inc. recently launched a ‘Local Roads are Essential’ advocacy campaign which coincides with today’s effort by legislators.
