“My colleagues in the legislature believe in fiscal responsibility, a smaller government and empowering individuals to make their own decisions. Unfortunately, the New York State Budget falls short on every one of these values. First and foremost, the budget any meaningful changes to address crime, bail reform and fiscal responsibility. This budget will increase taxes and spending, which will add to an already unmanageable debt and deficit. It is irresponsible to increase the budget by $10 billion given the current lack of affordability and financial challenges residents are facing.

The budget prioritizes special interests and pet projects over the critical needs of citizens, leading to wasteful spending. Additionally, the budget expands the size and authority of the government, which will reduce individual freedoms and decision-making power. New Yorkers need a budget that works for New Yorkers, not those in power. New Yorkers need a budget that will prioritize crime and safety measures.

The Minority Assembly members called for a budget that prioritizes the well-being of the citizens and their needs. The government should act attentively and efficiently by providing public goods and services, not acting as enforcers of cultural values. A budget should not be a political game or an opportunity to fund favorite projects but a way to serve the people and promote their welfare,” Said Brown.
