Manktelow Against Decriminalization of Recreational Marijuana

A statement from Assemblyman Brian Manktelow (R,C,I,Ref-Lyons)

“While I am in full support of medicinal marijuana, I am adamantly against the decriminalization and legalization of recreational marijuana. I voted no on the legislation Gov. Cuomo recently signed to decriminalize recreational marijuana for a few reasons. Currently, the legislation will eliminate the penalty for those who smoke marijuana in public, making it a public health concern, and marijuana use has been aligned with the Clean Indoor Air Act just as other regular tobacco products are. Additionally, I have concerns this will allow criminals to ask for their records to be expunged or for lost wages and rights if they have served time in jail for offenses relating to marijuana. There has been no public hearings regarding this legislation. It is a reckless way of doing things.”
