Friend Supports Legislation Helping New Yorkers With Disabilities

Assemblyman Christopher Friend (R,C,I -Big Flats) today voted for legislation which would support New Yorkers with disabilities. Today, advocates and legislators celebrate what is known as Disability Day in the Capitol which is meant to bring awareness and action on the issues which affect those with disabilities.

“New York is a diverse state with many individuals living with disabilities, and the legislation we pass can positively impact their lives,” said Friend. “I am proud to support measures which would create incentives for employers to hire those with disabilities, ensure the physical accessibility of housing for those with limited mobility and seniors, and the establishment of the Office of the Advocate for People with Disabilities. Those with disabilities should be fully integrated in our communities, and I am proud to vote for legislation that helps to do so.”

Assemblyman Friend supported the following legislation:

  • A.2493 – Creates a pilot program to provide tax credits to modify and retrofit existing housing to be more accessible to those with limited mobility and the aging;
  • A.7475 – Create a small business tax credit for employers who hire an individual with a disability; and
  • A.4737 – Establishes the Office of the Advocate for People with Disabilities.
