Majority Women Assembly Members Support Governor Cuomo’s Call for Passage of the Women’s Equality Act
We were very gratified to hear Governor Cuomo again declare his strong commitment to the full 10 point Women’s Equality Act in the State of the State address. Governor Cuomo challenged the Legislature to pass the full 10 points, or explain why they didn’t. We are proud that the Assembly, led by Speaker Silver, a staunch supporter of women’s concerns, passed the full measure last June and are pleased we have done so again.
Last session, we passed the Governor’s bill, inclusive of all points, as the session drew to a close.
We are pleased to have the opportunity to pass the package at the beginning of this session, giving constituents across the State the chance to reach out to those Senators who control the State Senate who have blocked this bill from a vote.
Throughout the nation, we see increasingly aggressive attempts to restrict women’s health care options. New York has long been a leader in supporting women rights and we hear from our constituents, across the state, that they are counting on their State Legislature to ensure that all women are able to make the personal decisions that are in the best interest of their families and themselves.
We call on the Senate to join us in trusting New York’s women.
