Assemblyman Thiele Congratulates a Local Student on Being Nominated for the Presidential Scholars Program

Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I-Sag Harbor) announced that one of the students he recommended has been chosen by State Education Department Commissioner Betty A. Rosa to be part of the twenty-five New York State high school seniors nominated for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.Ms. Alexandra Clougher of William Floyd High School was the Career and Technical Education (CTE) selected nominee.

The Presidential Scholars Program was established by President Lyndon Johnson in 1964 and recognizes high school seniors based on outstanding scholarship.This recognition is one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.Commissioner Rosa has nominated twenty high school seniors – ten females and ten males – and five students in CTE programs from New York to be considered for this honor

Assemblyman Thiele stated, “I am thrilled that one of my local students, Alexandra Clougher, has been nominated as one of five Career and Technical Education (CTE) students for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program!Ms. Clougher is a William Floyd High School senior who stands out as having academic success, leadership qualities, and personal achievements, even in the face of adversity.I am proud to represent this determined young woman in the First Assembly District and wish Alexandra luck as she moves to the next level of this notable competition.”

The Commission on Presidential Scholars will select the 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholars and those students will receive the prestigious Presidential Scholars Medallion.
