Assemblyman Thiele Helps Pass Legislation to Protect New Yorkers from Gender Identity Discrimination
“Nobody should have to worry when they apply for an apartment, seek a job or even enter a restaurant that they may be discriminated against or bullied for any reason. That’s why I voted in favor of the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA) (A.4226).
“Although discrimination on the basis of sex, age, race, creed, national origin and sexual orientation is currently against the law, no protections exist for gender identity and expression. The GENDA bill would expand the Human Rights Law and prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression.
“The Assembly has a longstanding commitment to ensuring equal treatment for all individuals. We must not stop fighting until we end all discrimination and achieve true equality for our citizens.
As always, I remain committed to ensuring that all New Yorkers are afforded the same rights and protections under the law.”
