Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I-Sag Harbor) and State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle today reported that revenues for the Peconic Bay Community Preservation Fund (CPF) produced $12.64 million in revenue for the Peconic Bay Region for December 2013. The year-end total for 2013 is $95.43 million. 2013 is the second highest revenue total in the history of the CPF, exceeded only by $96.02 million in 2007. Revenue for 2013 is 42.8% higher than in 2012 when $66.84 million was collected. There were 8,328 transactions in 2013 compared with 5,972 in 2012. Since its inception in 1999, the Peconic Bay Regional Community Preservation Fund has generated $884.73 million. The Town of Southampton, with $57.79 million in revenue for 2013, generated its highest annual revenue in the history of the program.
Thiele stated, "It is clear that based on the CPF revenues for 2013, the real estate industry on the East End is in its strongest position since the start of the recession in 2008. CPF revenues have more than doubled from 2009 and have shown consistent growth for several years. This is good news for preservation efforts as CPF funds should now be flush with cash, allowing Towns to be aggressive in protecting lands for open space, farmland, parks and recreation, and historic preservation purposes."
