Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I, D, WF-Sag Harbor) announced today that he, as Chair of the Assembly’s Small Business Committee, helped secure $50,000 for both the Long Island Wine Council and Long Island Farm Bureau in the Final Enacted 2016-17 State Budget for tourism promotion.

Rob Carpenter, Administrative Director of the Long Island Farm Bureau noted, “Long Island Farm Bureau appreciates the efforts of Assemblyman Thiele and his support of Long Island agriculture. Agriculture still plays a vital role in the economy of the East End and citizens value the fresh fruits and vegetables, wine, seafood and flowers and trees that the industry produces and allows us to keep our rural character and way of life. The state funding will help ensure that our farms and vineyards continue to have a positive impact on Long Island.”

Steve Bate, Executive Director of the Long Island Wine Council said, “Assemblyman Thiele has always recognized the important role that farming and agri-tourism play in the East End’s economy, not only during the traditional summer travel season but increasingly year round. Like all craft beverages, our wine industry must have visitors throughout the year to remain viable and continue to help support our partners in the local tourism economy.
