Thiele: Assembly Budget Proposal Combats Heroin Epidemic
“Too many East End families have experienced the devastating effects of the heroin epidemic that is sweeping our state and our nation. The agony of addiction and the tragic loss of our loved ones is deeply heartbreaking, and I’m working to address the issue in Albany.
“The Assembly’s state budget proposal provides $30 million to improve and expand prevention and treatment services for those battling heroin and opioid addiction, including $15 million to ensure underserved communities have access to quality, affordable care. We also included $15 million to help engage at-risk individuals and link them with treatment as well as help those who are post-treatment with continued support to help keep them on the path to recovery.
“These funds are vital to protecting our children and other loved ones from falling victim to deadly heroin and opioid abuse. You can trust that I will continue to combat this scourge on our families with every tool at our disposal.”
