Thiele: East End Schools Awarded Smart Schools Funding
New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I, D, WF, WE-Sag Harbor) today announced that Center Moriches UFSD, Shelter Island UFSD and Tuckahoe Common School District are 3 of 65 schools throughout the State that are set to receive part of a $44 million award made this year to New York State schools under the Smart Schools Bond Act.
A $2 billion Smart Schools Bond Act was overwhelmingly approved by voters in 2014, as a means to finance educational technology and infrastructure, providing students access to the latest technology and connectivity needed to succeed and compete in the 21st century economy. With the Smart Schools Act, school districts are investing in technology such as computer servers, interactive whiteboards, tablets, desktop and laptop computers, and high-speed broadband and wireless connectivity. This technology helps students to learn at their own pace, expands access to advanced courses and interactive curriculum, and enhances communication between parents and teachers.
- Center Moriches is expected to receive $1,034,558 in total; $360,000 for school connectivity, $544,558 for classroom technology, and $130,000 for high-tech security.
- Shelter Island was awarded $57,876 for classroom technology.
- Tuckahoe is expected to receive $83,826 in total; $32,026 for school connectivity, $33,327 for classroom technology, and $18,473 for high tech security.
