NYS DOT to Reduce Speed Limit on Route 27 in Southampton

Reduction from 45 MPH to 40 MPH between Flying Point Road and Head of Pond Road

Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I, D, WF, WE - Sag Harbor) today announced that the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) is planning to reduce the speed limit on NYS Route 27 between Flying Point Road and Head of Pond Road from 45 MPH to 40 MPH, which is the same as the roadway immediately east of this section.

The DOT also installed “Reduced Speed Limit Ahead” signs on eastbound and westbound NYS Route 27 to alert motorists of the reduction in speed limit to “30 mph” as they enter the downtown area of Water Mill. In addition, they installed larger speed limit signs to enhance visibility and, new, “Pedestrian Ahead” warning signs prior to the two crosswalks on this state road between Halsey Lane and Proprietor’s Road. Finally, the DOT upgraded the existing “Pedestrian” warning signs and the “State Law Yield to Pedestrian in Crosswalk” signs.
