7 of 39 Long Island projects are in the 1st Assembly District

New York State Assemblyman Fred Thiele, Jr. (I, D, WF, WE-Sag Harbor), Chairman of the Assembly Standing Committee on Small Business, today announced that the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) has recommended that 7 projects in the 1st Assembly District be funded under the State’s Regional Economic Development Initiative.

There were 39 projects recommended for state funding across Long Island. There are 22 Assembly Districts on Long Island. The Long Island REDC is one of 10 REDCs across the State. This is Round 8 for REDC funding.

After seven rounds of the REDC process across New York State, more than $5.4 billion has been awarded to more than 6,300 job creation and community development projects consistent with each region’s strategic plan, projecting to create and retain more than 220,000 jobs. Round 8 of the REDC initiative makes more than $750 million in state resources available across all 10 regions, including up to $225 million in performance-based grants and tax credits from Empire State Development, and over $525 million from more than 30 state agency programs.

Every region is guaranteed a base amount of funding for its regional strategic plan. Five regions will be awarded additional funding as a “Top Performer” in a competitive process. In 2017, Long Island was a top performer.
