Assemblyman Thiele Supports Expansion of Solar Power through New Energy Campaign

Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I, D, WF, WE - Sag Harbor) today announced his support for the Million Solar Strong campaign, which is aiming to power one million New York households, including 100,000 low-income households, with solar energy by 2023. The Million Solar Strong Coalition is comprised of industry, environmental, justice and community organizations united by the vision of a strong clean energy economy that works for all New Yorkers.

This goal of Million Solar Strong strengthens the State of New York’s REV (Reforming the Energy Vision), which seeks to develop the renewable energy industry, significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and derive 50% of New York’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Accelerating the transition to a clean energy system will make energy and utility bills more affordable for New Yorkers, create new jobs, reduce air pollution and combat climate change.

“I proudly support Million Solar Strong’s vision for our energy future, and applaud their goal of powering one million New York households with solar by 2023, including 100,000 low-income households. These efforts will help combat climate change, reduce emissions and build a more environmentally-friendly, resilient and affordable energy system,” stated Assemblyman Thiele, “It is imperative that we reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, and support initiatives that seek to advance New York’s clean energy future – one that is available to all New Yorkers, regardless of income level.”
