Assemblymember Gabriella Romero Secures Historic Multi-Year State Investment in the City of Albany
Albany, NY - Assemblymember Gabriella A. Romero (D, WFP–Albany, Guilderland, New Scotland) today announced historic, multi-year funding for the City of Albany. Building upon the recently announced $44.4 million in funding for Albany passed in this year’s budget, Assemblymember Romero has secured long-term aid to support the city alongside her Capital Region Delegation colleagues Senator Patricia Fahy and Assemblymember John McDonald.
Along with the $20 million in Capital City Aid and $24.4 million in additional support secured in the FY27 State Budget, the city of Albany will receive $20 million structured as recurring funding over the next three years.
Together, this funding marks the most significant, long-term fiscal commitment Governor Hochul has made to Albany. This is a major step forward in establishing recurring, long-term aid to address Albany’s unique financial challenges as New York State’s Capital City.
“Albany has long deserved its due, and this historic multi-year investment reflects years of sustained, hard-fought effort to deliver for our community,” said Assemblymember Gabriella Romero. “I want to thank my Capital Region Delegation colleagues, Senator Fahy and Assemblymember John McDonald for their partnership and tireless advocacy on behalf of our city, and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie for his incredible leadership. Without them this would not be possible. I also want to thank Governor Hochul, who appreciates Albany - her home - like no other. We fought to ensure this was not just one-time relief, but recurring funding that recognizes Albany’s unique role as our Capital City. I am very proud that in my first term I was able to secure an agreement that begins to correct the structural inequities our city has faced and provides real stability for Albany’s future.”
