Assemblymember Gabriella Romero Secures $300,000 to Support Lifeguards and Keep Albany Pools Open This Summer

Albany, NY – Assemblymember Gabriella A. Romero (D, WFP–Albany, Guilderland, New Scotland) today announced that she has secured $300,000 in state funding to support lifeguard staffing for the City of Albany, helping ensure the city’s public pools remain open and aquatic programming continues throughout the summer.

The funding will allow the City of Albany to recruit and retain lifeguards, expand staffing capacity, and provide safe, accessible swimming opportunities for families to stay active, learn lifesaving swimming skills, and find relief during periods of extreme heat. This funding will help ensure Albany residents have continued access to these important services throughout the summer.

“Every child and every family deserves a safe place to cool off, learn to swim, and enjoy the summer,” said Assemblymember Gabriella Romero. “This $300,000 investment will help ensure Albany can fully staff its pools, continue aquatic programming, and keep these vital community spaces open when our residents need them most. Our capital city deserves investment and our residents deserve fun, safe, beautiful community spaces. I’m proud to have secured this funding to support this programming.”

The funding reinforces Assemblymember Romero’s commitment to investing in quality-of-life initiatives that strengthen neighborhoods, expand recreational opportunities, and support working families across Albany.
