Assemblymember Bronson to Sponsor Holiday Helping Hand Drive

Assemblymember Harry B. Bronson (D-Rochester/Chili/Riga/Rush/Wheatland) announced that he will be partnering with the Dimitri House for the “Holiday Helping Hand Drive,” a food drive to help those struggling to make ends meet during the winter months.

“Rochester winters can reach brutally cold temperatures,” Bronson said. “As we gear up for the holiday season, we must pause to consider those among us who may need a holiday helping hand.”

All goods collected during the “Holiday Helping Hand Drive” will be donated to the Dimitri House, a local shelter whose mission is to “welcome the stranger, feed the hungry and shelter the homeless.”

“As the current economic recession continues to strangle our region, the number of families who have difficulty providing for themselves has continued to grow,” said J. Fran Morse, Director of Dimitri house. “Our doors are open to help those least able to provide for themselves; it is my hope that this Holiday Helping Hand Drive will bring attention to our community and the needs of our families.”

From December 3 to December 19, items may be dropped off at Assemblymember Bronson’s district office, located at 840 University Ave. in Rochester. Donations may be made between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The following items will be accepted:

  • new or gently used scarves, hats, gloves and socks;
  • non-perishable food items, including:
    • canned soup or tuna
    • pasta, rice or cereal
    • peanut butter and jelly;
  • toiletries, including:
    • toothbrushes and toothpaste
    • soap and shampoo
    • deodorant
    • Advil, Tylenol, bandages; and
  • paper products, including:
    • toilet paper
    • paper towels
    • paper plates.

“This time of year presents a wonderful opportunity for us to give back to those less fortunate within our community and ensure that we all have a warm, safe and happy holiday season,” Bronson said. “Please donate what you can and help your fellow community members.”
