Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz (R,C-Oyster Bay) supports his Assembly Minority colleagues Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square), Assemblyman Mike Reilly (R,C-Staten Island), Assemblyman Brian Maher (R,C-Walden) and Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) who are proposing new legislation to address the migrant crisis. The proposals aim to tackle public concerns and risks associated with the recent surge of thousands of migrants who are not being monitored or accounted for. The proposals will ensure transparency for the $1 billion budget allocation for New York City migrant needs, prevent elementary schools from losing full access to facilities in order to house migrants, protect veterans and active reservists from having their reservations canceled, and implement background checks and effective technology to register and track those who crossed into New York illegally.

“Whether the migrant crisis is directly affecting a particular New York community or not, this is a statewide issue,” said Blumencranz. “States of emergency are being declared throughout the state. This is embarrassing to our state and is an added reason for New Yorkers to leave for greener pastures. One billion dollars has already been allocated toward services for immigration. There are zero excuses for sanctuary cities to be ill-equipped. This was bound to happen and now we are pressed to find resolutions to protect our state and residents.”
