Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz (R,C-Oyster Bay) recently wrote a letter to the commissioners of the New York state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services and New York state Homes and Community Renewal to request immediate emergency assistance in response to a tragic fire at a senior living apartment complex in Plainview. While the cause of the fire is still unknown, two residents were killed, and several others were treated for smoke inhalation. Blumencranz is calling on these organizations to mobilize all available emergency recovery and housing resources to coordinate a response to help those who have been injured and displaced as a result of this tragedy. Blumencranz is also reiterating his commitment to the community by offering to assist and support any recovery initiative with his office to make sure those affected are taken care of during this challenging time.

“The news coming out of Plainview last weekend was heartbreaking, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all those who were impacted by this tragedy,” said Blumencranz. “During this time, however, I’ve also seen the incredible strength and resilience of this community as neighbors, families and friends have stepped up to help those in need. We must continue to work together to make sure no one is left without their basic needs being met. This is why I’m calling for emergency state resources to be deployed to provide much-needed support to victims and their families, including temporary housing, medical care and access to basic necessities. Together we will get through this and provide resources to those affected.”
