Queens Assembly Member Jessica González-Rojas Honored at Annual National Hispanic Media Coalition Impact New York Awards

Chelsea, NY – Wednesday night, New York State Assembly Member Jessica González-Rojas (D-34) of Queens, was honored at the Annual National Hispanic Media Coalition Impact New York Awards. Hosted by actor, producer, and Visionary Alliance member, Wilson Cruz, the evening was full of passionate speeches, uplifting the power of storytelling to humanize the Latinx and immigrant experience, particularly inspired by the tumultuous political environment.

“It’s such an honor to be recognized by the National Hispanic Media Coalition, a woman-led non-profit organization, for the work I’ve done and continue to do in my career to fight for equity and justice for diverse communities. I am especially moved to have been honored with such powerful and inspiring people like Zoriada Córdova, the creators of Real Women Have Curves: The Musical, Michelladonna, and of course Council Member Tiffany Cabán. It’s moments like these that give us an opportunity to take stock of the important work people in our community are doing to reinforce freedom and dignity for all. We are experiencing an extreme moment in our history where oligarchs and fascists are fighting to maintain their power. But tonight was both sobering and encouraging, being surrounded by a community of resilient and persistent fighters and storytellers – whether that is in the arts or politics – never tiring in their efforts. I’m so grateful,” Assembly Member Jessica González-Rojas.

The NHMC Impact New York Awards reception was held Wednesday, April 23 at 6:30pm at Pier 57 in Chelsea, New York. Honorees included: Real Women Have Curves: The Musical, Zoriada Córdova, Author of Kiss The Girl, Council Member Tiffany Cabán (District 22), Michelladonna & the series, “Shop Cats.”
