Assembly Member Jessica González-Rojas Celebrates Assembly Passage of Bill that Codifies Reproductive Education Program
ALBANY, NY – On Wednesday, Assembly Member Jessica González-Rojas celebrated the Assembly passage of the A2581B/S3285B, which establishes the Department of Health Education and Outreach Program on reproductive health services. The program is designed to inform and empower New Yorkers on the full range of reproductive health services available across the state. Educational efforts will cover a broad range of services including, but not limited to, contraceptives, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, abortion care, mammograms, pregnancy care, and more.
“I am so proud that we passed this important bill today, especially as New Yorkers continue to face relentless attacks on our rights under the Trump administration. With our reproductive and healthcare freedoms under constant threat, we must act swiftly to secure access and protect New Yorkers from the dangerous spread of misinformation that puts lives at risk. We’re not done yet—this bill still needs to pass the State Senate—but today, we celebrate a major step forward,” said Jessica González-Rojas, prime sponsor of the bill in the Assembly.
The bill builds upon the Assembly Member’s ongoing fight to protect reproductive freedom and expand healthcare access for all New Yorkers. It would create a New York State Department of Health Education and Outreach Program on reproductive health services for patients, educators, and health providers. The program would also include counseling for reproductive health services, telehealth, financial assistance options, and information about related programs offered through other state agencies. It would also ensure confidentiality provisions for patients and providers.
