Giglio Voices Support for Federal Assistance in Suffolk County Flood Recovery
The storm that struck many parts of Long Island on August 18 and 19, 2024, brought record-breaking rainfall, leading to widespread flooding across Suffolk County. Homes were inundated, businesses sustained severe property damage and vital infrastructure was destroyed. Many residents were forced to evacuate, and countless others faced significant financial losses. This disaster has brought forth the urgent need for federal and local support to help affected families and businesses rebuild and regain stability once again. This is why Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio (R,C-Riverhead) is standing in full support of recent federal efforts to assist Suffolk County residents and businesses affected by the devastating floods. Rep. Nick LaLota, working in collaboration with Sen. Anthony Palumbo and Assemblywoman Giglio, has successfully secured expanded Small Business Administration (SBA) benefits to help homeowners, renters, businesses and nonprofits recover from the damage.
“These resources couldn’t come at a more critical time,” said Giglio. “I’ve seen firsthand how these floods have impacted our community, and I want everyone to know that help is available. Whether you’re a homeowner repairing damages or a business trying to stay afloat, there are tools to help you rebuild. I’m grateful for Congressman LaLota and Senator Palumbo’s partnership in ensuring Suffolk County gets the support it needs.”
The SBA is providing low-interest loans to address physical damages and offering Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) to help businesses and nonprofits recover from financial hardships caused by the storm. Constituents can apply for assistance online at sba.gov/disaster or call the SBA Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 for more information.
“Recovering from a disaster like this isn’t easy, but it’s not something you have to go through alone,” Giglio added. “I encourage everyone affected to take advantage of these resources and know that my office is here to support you.”
For those in need of further assistance, Assemblywoman Giglio’s office is available to provide guidance and connect constituents with federal and state resources. Constituents can contact her office at (631) 727-0204 or giglioj2@nyassembly.gov.
