Assemblywoman Giglio’s Statement on Governor Kathy Hochul’s State of the State
Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio (R,C-Riverhead) released the following statement regarding Governor Kathy Hochul’s State of the State address, which took place Monday in the State Capitol.
“Governor Hochul’s State of the State failed to address the real challenges facing Long Island,” Giglio said. “While I agree with the governor on lowering auto insurance costs and stopping utility rate hikes, she spoke repeatedly about affordability without once addressing the need to rein in state spending. Instead her proposals relied on even more spending, which will only worsen New York’s affordability crisis. I was particularly disappointed by her push to expand universal two-K, three-K and pre-K in New York City while Long Island families continue to struggle with limited access. In our communities school districts, for example, many students can’t be accommodated leaving many families without universal child care options, forcing parents to stay home from work with their young kids. While I support expanding mental health services for those in crisis, I will always stand for giving any law enforcement the tools they need to keep our communities safe. I look forward to hearing the governor's budget presentation next week to see how she plans to execute her plans.”
