Giglio To Select SUNY Maritime Scholarship Recipient
One qualified individual from his district to receive four-year scholarship
Assemblyman Joe Giglio (R,C,I-Gowanda) announced today he will soon choose one qualified individual from his legislative district to participate in the State University of New York (SUNY) at Maritime College’s prestigious Cadet Appointment Program.
The Cadet Appointment Program enables the governor and members of the state Legislature to each nominate a high school student to attend SUNY Maritime College as part of its “Regiment of Cadets.” The student nominated by Assemblyman Giglio and who is accepted into the college receives a four-year scholarship that covers the cost of tuition.
“While pursuing an undergraduate degree at SUNY Maritime in engineering, business or science, cadets also prepare for licensure as ship officers in the U.S. Merchant Marines,” said Giglio. “I look forward to receiving many applications from the bright young women and men in my district who are interested in this program. There is no better opportunity for our young people than a quality academic experience with the ability to serve our country at the same time.”
To be eligible, students must have a combined SAT (math and critical reading) score of 1200, a high school grade point average of at least 90 percent, demonstrated leadership and community service experience, and be a resident of the 149th Assembly District. Completed applications must be submitted to Maritime College in Throgs Neck by March 15.
For application materials, contact Assemblyman Giglio’s district office at (716) 373-7103 or contact the Maritime College Office of Admissions directly at (718) 409-7221.
