Assemblyman Joe Giglio (R,C,I-Gowanda) today joined the call for immediate property tax relief. New York’s high property taxes are having a crippling effect on homeowners and businesses.

“One of my top legislative priorities is to provide homeowners with real relief from runaway property taxes and get those savings back into the pockets of our hardworking families and residents,” said Giglio. “It’s about time we put the brakes on New York’s haphazard spending and stop the fiscal hemorrhaging that is stifling our middle class. Our constituents deserve a little more top-down fiscal prudence.”

The Assembly minority conference has a plan that includes enhancements to the STAR Program, additional reforms to protect tax dollars from Medicaid fraud and waste, restoration of State Aid to schools to help lower the tax burden and other measures aimed at saving taxpayers money. This plan will provide significant property tax relief throughout New York state while also enacting policies aimed at saving property taxpayers millions in the coming years.

If implemented, the proposals would save the average taxpayer roughly $715 annually. For the average senior citizen who owns a home the savings would be even greater, approximately $1,256 dollars a year.
