Giglio to Nominate Scholarship Recipient to SUNY Maritime
Application deadline for four-year scholarship extended to March 15
Assemblyman Joe Giglio (R,I,C-Gowanda) today announced he will soon be nominating one qualified high school student from the 149th Assembly District to receive a four-year tuition scholarship to attend SUNY Maritime College. Nomination applications are due March 15.
The scholarship is being offered as part of the school’s Cadet Appointment program.
The Cadet Appointment program enables the governor and members of the state Legislature to each nominate a student for the scholarship to attend the college as part of its Regiment of Cadets.
While pursuing undergraduate studies at SUNY Maritime in engineering, business, or science, cadets also prepare for licensure as ship officers in the U.S. Merchant Marines.
“I look forward to receiving many applications from the bright young men and women in my district who are interested in this prestigious program. There is no better opportunity for our young people than a quality academic experience with the ability to serve our country at the same time,” said Giglio.
To be eligible, students must have a combined SAT score of at least 1100, a high school grade point average of at least 90 percent, demonstrated leadership and community service experience, and a resident of the 149th Assembly District. Completed applications must be submitted to Maritime College by March 15.
