Giglio Announces Grants for Local Libraries
Assemblyman Highlights Importance of Local Libraries
Assemblyman Joseph M. Giglio (R,C,I-Gowanda) today announced that three local libraries in the 148th Assembly District have been awarded construction grants totaling about $142,000. The three libraries that will be receiving these grants are the Belfast Public Library, Belfast, with $12,375; the David A. Howe Library, Wellsville, with, $121,867; and the Blount Library, Franklinville, with $7,500.
“Many of our libraries in New York State are housed in buildings that are located in the historic district of our communities and are oftentimes decades old. It is important that we provide resources to maintain the libraries in our communities,” said Assemblyman Giglio. “I am proud that several community libraries in my district have been awarded funding for their construction and renovation needs.”
In total, New York State awarded $14 million in grants to be used to offer greater enhancements and accessibility for libraries. These renovations include the construction of additions to existing buildings and rehabilitation of existing space, including roof replacement; purchase and installation of alternative energy resources and new HVAC systems; doors, windows, and lighting systems; electrical upgrades; and construction of new or replacement of old walkways and parking lots, among other things.
“Libraries are an incredibly important resource for the residents of my district, offering critical early literacy services and providing job-training resources for adults,” Giglio continued. “These services, among others, make libraries a vital element for the continued success of New York’s public education system. I know that libraries across the state are cornerstones of their respective communities, and even small bits of funding help them a great deal.”
