Blankenbush Cosponsors Agriculture Investment Bill
A Legislative Column from Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R,C,I-Black River)
While in Albany, the health and well-being of our agriculture industry continues to be at the forefront of my mind. With the unpredictable and ever-changing economic landscape that is present in New York State, it is important that we put in place programs that will protect the vital industries in our community. We must design and pass legislation that safeguards these industries, which is why I have signed on and become a co-sponsor of Assembly Bill 7367.
In short, Assembly Bill 7367 was designed to allow the Commissioner of Agriculture and Markets to study and develop long-term strategies for sustaining farming and food production in New York State. This legislation will also allow the Commissioner to reevaluate current law and further protect against development on land deemed productive for agriculture. This study and the creation of a plan for our agriculture industry’s future are key steps toward protecting the stability and growth of the industry in New York.
Enacting this legislation and following through with its designed intentions will have a positive impact on both small and mid-sized farms that make up most of upstate New York. It will also help with the development of new and innovative business practices for these farms, and create an environment designed to benefit the entire state’s agriculture community for the future.
Proactive legislation such as this is necessary, forward thinking, and will safeguard an industry that is vital to our district. The farming community contributes enormously to the area both economically and culturally. Because of its importance, I will always encourage and endorse legislation that ensures the development and improvement of agricultural practices.
Pursuing farm-friendly legislation that benefits our agriculture community will remain a priority of mine while I serve as your representative in the Assembly.
