Blankenbush, Colleagues Unveil Petition Urging Assembly Majority to Bring Gold Star Family Scholarship Bill to Floor

In response to the Assembly Majority blocking a bipartisan bill to provide cost-free college tuition to the children of active duty service members who die in action, Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R,C,I-Black River) and his colleagues have launched a petition encouraging Majority leaders to do the right thing and bring the bill to the floor.

“This bill would pass on the floor in overwhelming fashion. Let’s get it on the governor’s desk as soon as possible,” said Blankenbush. “Let’s show the Majority that some issues are bigger than politics. Let’s show them that taking care of the loved ones of courageous heroes who lay down their lives for our country isn’t a Minority issue or a Majority issue- it’s the obligation of our American family.”

After outspoken advocacy by the Assembly Minority, Gov. Cuomo pledged to support the bill. President Trump attacked the Assembly Majority for blocking the common-sense proposal.

“Signing this petition is a way that you can take direct action. Signing this petition will help us send a clear message to the Assembly Majority. New Yorkers, especially those living near Fort Drum, will always stand shoulder to shoulder with those who stand up for our rights at home and abroad,” said Blankenbush.

“The Assembly Majority prioritized free college tuition for illegals over taking care of the family members of our fallen heroes. This is about making that right. It’s not too late,” said Blankenbush.
