“It’s a sin that we haven’t removed and replaced all the lead service lines providing New Yorkers with drinking water at their homes,” said Buttenschon. “The federal government provided $500 million for the state to replace lead water lines to residences, but that is not enough to correct the contamination problem. Clean and safe drinking water should be a basic right for all New Yorkers. When parents turn on the faucet, they should not worry about whether the water coming out will hurt their children.”
