Assemblywoman Buttenschon: New York State Assembly Honors Volunteer Firefighters, Nurses, and Teachers
Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon (D-C Marcy) announced that last week, the New York State Assembly passed a resolution to honor our volunteer firefighters.
"Last week in the Assembly, my colleagues and I passed a resolution proclaiming May 4th as Volunteer Firefighters’ Appreciation Day in New York State. Our brave volunteer firefighters put their lives on the line every day to serve and protect our communities, and we owe them our gratitude for their service," stated Buttenschon. “I will continue to advocate for their needs in the Assembly and ensure our heroes have the resources to protect us."
In January, Assemblywoman Buttenschon introduced legislation to provide annual cancer screenings for volunteer firefighters. This critical legislation has garnered the support of the Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY) and currently has ten co-sponsors.
In addition to this resolution, the New York State Assembly celebrated National Nurses Week and Teachers Appreciation Week.
“Our nurses and teachers are the backbone of the Mohawk Valley. I would like to thank each and every one of them for their dedication and the impact they have on our community,” said Buttenschon. "As we express our gratitude for them, we must reaffirm our commitment to supporting our teachers and nurses by ensuring they have the resources they need and are compensated fairly for their work."
