Assemblywoman Buttenschon Thanks Local Schools for Bringing Warmth and Gratitude to Veterans Through Cards for Vets Initiative
The month of November is honored as Veterans Month in the New York State Assembly. Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon extends her deepest appreciation to the schools, students, and educators across the 119th Assembly District who participated in her annual "Cards for Vets" initiative. Thanks to their heartfelt efforts, hundreds of veterans in the community received personal messages of gratitude, reminding them that their sacrifices are treasured, and their bravery remembered.
This year's Cards for Vets initiative saw enthusiastic involvement from students across many local school districts, including Rome City School District, Utica City School District, Whitesboro Central School District, New York Mills Union Free School District, Oriskany Central School District, Utica Academy of Science, Notre Dame Junior/Senior High School, Westmoreland Central School District, and New York State School for the Deaf. With the guidance and support of their teachers, these students crafted over 500 unique, handmade cards filled with warm messages and thoughtful artwork. Each card represented not only the students' respect but also the dedication of educators who instilled the importance of honoring our nation's heroes.
Assemblywoman Buttenschon personally delivered these cards, along with NYS Assembly Legislative Resolutions to American Legion posts, Veterans of Foreign Wars posts, nursing homes, and veteran community events throughout the 119th NYS Assembly district. At each location, the cards served as a powerful reminder of the connection between generations and the enduring gratitude of young people for the sacrifices made by veterans.
Assemblywoman Buttenschon shared her gratitude for the efforts of students and teachers, stating: "I want to thank the local school children and teachers for their dedication and work to support our local veterans. Our veterans have made many sacrifices and the interest by our schools to partner with my office to thank our veterans for their service is commendable."
