The State of Our State is in the Balance
Statement from Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C-Ballston) in response to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s 2023 State of the State Address
“The governor stated today that New York is ‘strong,’ but, in reality, our state’s future success hangs in the balance. Rampant crime, over taxation, burdensome business regulations and unchecked single-party rule are just a few reasons New Yorkers are continuing to leave our state in record numbers.
“With all of the problems we are facing in New York state, Gov. Hochul's focus on creating affordable housing is merely the tip of the iceberg. We need to be protecting New Yorkers and fixing the broken criminal justice system. We need a thriving and affordable economy. We need a government that works; one that’s efficient, ethical, representative and balanced. We need to restore rigor in education, address devastating learning loss and prepare our future workforce. We need to support the recovery of our businesses, support vital infrastructure and services and reduce burdensome mandates that are killing New York.
“I will work with anyone, including the governor, if we are going to take a serious look at current policies contributing to the exodus of residents. We simply cannot afford to continue on our current course. Our state is so much better than that.”
