Walsh Applauds Enforcement of Assembly Rule to Livestream Committee Meetings
Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C-Ballston) applauds the Assembly speaker’s announcement that all committee meetings will now be livestreamed. Constituents and stakeholders from around New York state have been expecting committees to be livestreamed since 2016, when the rule was first adopted. The decision to finally enforce this rule comes after Walsh introduced an amendment last year calling for the meetings to immediately be made available by broadcast.
The New York State Senate has streamed all meetings for over a decade.
“With so much of our days and the work we do relying upon on video calls and virtual connectivity because of the pandemic, it is only right that we uphold the promise made in 2016 to stream and archive committee meetings,” said Walsh. “In the spirit of transparency and accountability, it is important to add corresponding video to the audio that we have all depended upon for years so that the public and stakeholders are able to follow along every step of the legislative process.”
