Walsh Receives National Federation of Independent Business’ Guardian Award

Lawmaker recognized as ‘champion for New York’s small businesses’

In recognition of her steadfast support of New York’s small business community, Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C,I,Ref-Ballston) has been named as one of this year’s National Federation of Independent Business’ (NFIB) ‘Guardians of Small Business.’ Walsh is one of only three members of the State Assembly, and just nine state legislators, to receive the Guardian Award, the organization’s most prestigious honor it bestows on state lawmakers.

The NFIB chooses recipients of the Guardian Award based on lawmakers’ voting record on issues the organization views as critical to the best interests of small and independent business owners, as well as their commitment to supporting measures that stimulate business growth. Honorees this year voted in line with the NFIB’s small business priorities on at least 7 of 8 key votes during this year’s legislative session, demonstrating a profound commitment to small business priorities.

“It is critically important that we partner with organizations like the NFIB to protect our local small business owners and address the oppressive tax burdens and harsh regulatory climate that have plagued our state for far too long,” said Walsh. “It is an honor to be recognized as one of this year’s Small Business Guardians, and I look forward to continuing to serve as an advocate in the State Assembly for the NFIB and the hardworking men and women they represent.”

“Mary Beth Walsh’s commitment to small businesses, entrepreneurship and growing the Capital Region’s economy is evidenced by her perfect score on NFIB’s 2017-18 legislative voting record. Assemblywoman Walsh has stood with the small business owners who drive the economy of the 112th Assembly District every chance she’s had while serving in the New York State Assembly. On behalf of the more than 10,000 small and independent businesses that comprise NFIB’s membership in New York, we thank her for her steadfast support,” said Greg Biryla, NFIB’s New York State Director.

The NFIB had previously recognized Walsh’s commitment to independent business owners with a 100 point score on the organization’s assessment of this year’s legislative session, one of only four members of the state Assembly to earn perfect marks.
