Eviction Extension Is Not Fair to Anyone

A statement from Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C,I-Ballston) on a bill to extend the eviction moratorium (A.7175)

“At the onset of the pandemic, the eviction moratorium aided New Yorkers who needed it. Extending the eviction and foreclosure moratorium for an additional four months, the exact same day the governor has announced plans for a full re-opening of our state’s economy by May 17th, is not necessary and only furthers the financial hurt for the numerous large and small landlords throughout the state.

“It is not compassionate for tenants either. Allowing their rent to snowball for well over a year, along with utility bills, and then have it coming due all at once, will no doubt be catastrophic for individuals and families throughout New York state.”
