Assembly Member Kay’s Statement on Temporary Rate Increase on NYSEG Customers

Albany, NY – Last week, the Public Service Commission (PSC) approved a temporary rate increase for NYSEG customers, while they continue to work with the companies and parties to come to a more definitive rate plan in the future.

Assembly Member Kay, an intervenor in the ongoing NYSEG/RG&E rate case, said, “THIS IS JUST WRONG! I believe The Public Service Commission made a poor decision at a time when people are choosing between paying their electric bill, and buying food, and I do not believe the PSC members are acting in the best interest of the public, who they ostensibly serve. I have long advocated against ANY rate increases because of the economic stress my constituents are already under.

This temporary increase will represent a 0.2% increase for Sullivan County customers and while that is far lower than the proposed increase, I’ll continue to use my role as an intermediary in the rate case and as a legislator to fight to make utilities more manageable for families who sure need a break right now.

As always, our office remains committed to helping identify resources to help those of you struggling to pay your electric bills and acting as an intermediary between our constituents and NYSEG to ensure billing errors aren’t to blame for irregularly high bills. Please call my office for any sort of assistance at 845-794-5807.”
