Assemblyman Ramos: Local Library to Receive State Funding For Needed Improvements
Assemblyman Phil Ramos (D-Central Islip) announced that the state has awarded $50,000 for infrastructure improvements to the Central Islip Public Library, part of a $14 million allocation for public library construction set aside in the 09-10 budget.
“Usage in our libraries is up during this current recession and this grant could not have been awarded at a better time,” Ramos said. “In these difficult economic times people are turning to libraries more and more as a source for free education and entertainment.”
Ramos said the funding will finance the reconstruction of the main entryway, a new gallery and a new wireless Internet access area for the public.
“These funds will avert our already cash-strapped local governments having to foot the bill, helping save taxpayers money,” Ramos said. “This funding is necessary and vital to the continuation of the services our local libraries provide.”
Over the years Assemblyman Ramos has proven his dedication to our local libraries. Recently he secured funding for the Homework Center at the Central Islip Library. Programs like this will provide children with healthy and educational activities before and after school to help them learn and grow.
“Time and again Assemblyman Ramos has demonstrated a commitment to the educational and cultural growth of Central Islip,” said Central Islip Public Library Director Paul Facciano. “His most recent work, in obtaining this grant, is proof of his continued dedication and support.”
