Assemblyman Phil Ramos (D-Central Islip) announced that the New York State Department of Financial Services will be deploying its Mobile Command Center to Brentwood on Thursday, February 9, to provide mortgage foreclosure assistance to homeowners at risk of losing their homes.

“Suffolk County has the highest rate of home foreclosures in the state, and Brentwood, Islandia and Central Islip have three of the highest foreclosure rates in Long Island,” Assemblyman Ramos said. “The mobile command center will provide some much-needed assistance to local families and help make this process less stressful by providing information that may allow Suffolk families to avoid foreclosures.”

The command center will be staffed with counselors available to assist homeowners to assess where they are in the pre-foreclosure or foreclosure process and provide homeowners with information about specific loan modifications available under federal law. The counselors will also take complaints from homeowners who believe they have been subject to lender or mortgage-servicer abuses. Such cases will be investigated by the state Department of Financial Services.

“I urge any family facing a foreclosure to visit the command center and get the help they need. There is no cost to attend and doing so just might help avoid losing a home,” Ramos said.

The New York State Department of Financial Services Mobile Command Center will be open on Thursday, February 9, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will be located at the Pathmark supermarket at 101 Wicks Rd., in Brentwood. The services provided are free of charge.
