Governor’s Proposed Budget
Statement from Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R-C-I, Corning)
“The governor’s budget proposal provides a starting point for reform and, in the days ahead, I will be working with my colleagues to closely examine the details of his plan,” remarked Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I - Corning), following the governor’s budget presentation to lawmakers. “We all must make sacrifices, but I also want to make sure our region is not unfairly targeted and that we have shared sacrifice throughout the state.
“After years of reckless spending, taxing and borrowing, we must now address a multi-year budget deficit, including $10 Billion in the 2011-12 state fiscal year alone. We must work together to fundamentally restructure, redesign and reform our state government so we can bring back fiscal responsibility to our state.
“It is also imperative that we work to provide our school districts and municipalities with significant mandate relief from the escalating costs that continue to increase the local property tax burden on homeowners and small businesses.
“I look forward to hearing input from the residents of the 136th Assembly District and working with Governor Cuomo and my legislative colleagues as we begin this budget process.”
