Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I – Corning) announced today that the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is now accepting applications for four $1,500 scholarships to be awarded in June at their annual conference weekend. Two of the scholarships are based on academic achievement and two for athletic talent. Winners will be notified and must be present to receive their awards.
All students may request an application by contacting Assemblyman Palmesano’s office at 607-776-9691. Applications must be returned to Assemblyman Palmesano’s office by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 29 in order to be considered.
“The cost of attending college continues to rise significantly, but the importance of higher education is greater than ever,” said Palmesano. “Every opportunity to save money and increase the possibility of furthering your education should be considered. I’d like to encourage local students to apply for these scholarships.”
This year, the Italian-American State Legislators Conference will be awarding four $1,500 scholarships to current or future college students from New York State. Eligibility will be based on the student’s grade point average, interest in pursuing a higher education, involvement in the local community as well as individual financial need. Students do not need to be of Italian descent to apply or be considered.
