Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I – Corning) has been appointed to serve on a bipartisan commission that is tasked with preserving and protecting New York’s rural resources. The Legislative Commission on Rural Resources is comprised of Minority and Majority members from the Senate and Assembly who work together on a wide range of issues including agriculture, economic development, education, environment, land use, local governments, transportation, and health and human services.

“I am honored that Leader Kolb has entrusted me with the responsibility of protecting New York’s farmlands and farming communities,” said Palmesano. “I look forward to working with members on both sides of the aisle to find ways to aid farmers and preserve the immense natural resources that are so important to our state. Farmers statewide are struggling and we most do all that we can to revitalize the farming industry.”

Recognizing that the state's rural resources are decentralized, diverse and indispensable to the overall well-being of New York, in 1982, the legislature established the Rural Resources Commission to help to protect, preserve and enhance the rural resources of our state. Since that time, the Commission has sponsored approximately 100 legislative proposals that have been enacted and secured funding for dozens of rural programs.
