Palmesano: October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month And Opportunity For All To Get Health Check-Up
Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) is working with Adelphi New York to remind constituents that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Palmesano also is encouraging constituents to take the opportunity to have their health checked.
“Adelphi New York and other organizations have done a wonderful job in reminding women about the importance to get screened for breast cancer; however, I would like to encourage all New Yorkers to take this opportunity to have a health check-up,” said Palmesano. “When it comes to illness recovery, we all benefit from early detection – and general good health. In terms of our health, it is true that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
The assemblyman is reminding constituents of Adelphi New York’s statewide breast cancer hotline and support program as a resource for persons affected by breast cancer. The program can help people schedule a mammogram or other medical treatments, emotional support, information and referrals. This program is the oldest of its kind in the nation, having been active for 34 years.
While breast cancer continues to claim the lives of nearly 2,700 New Yorkers annually, early detection is key in treatment and recovery. In fact, of the 15,000 New Yorkers diagnosed with breast cancer each year, the majority is winning the battle thanks to early detection and improved treatment options.
Adelphi New York’s statewide hotline can be reached by calling 1-800-877-8077. More help and information can be found at their website.
