Kolb, Palmesano Announce Bill To Allow Rifle Hunting In Seneca County Passes Assembly
Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C-Canandaigua) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) today announced that legislation to legalize rifle hunting in Seneca County for the next two years has passed the Assembly. The bill (A.6952), sponsored jointly by Leader Kolb and Assemblyman Palmesano, will attract more sportsmen and women to Seneca County by allowing them to use rifles to hunt on local lands.
“The use of rifles during big-game season is becoming more popular among sportsmen and women,” Leader Kolb said. “We have seen its success across New York, and it’s important that Seneca County is able to provide similar hunting opportunities found in other regions. With this legislation in place, hunters can look forward to an even more enjoyable season in Seneca County.”
“Passage of this legislation is great news for Seneca County and New York’s outdoor enthusiasts,” Assemblyman Palmesano said. “Allowing the use of rifles opens up greater options for local hunters and will attract even more conservationists to the area. Seneca County offers some of the best natural resources in the state, and I am excited that this bill will provide a greater hunting experience this fall.
The Seneca County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution formally requesting to be added to the list of New York State counties that allow rifle hunting. Having passed the Senate earlier this year, the bill now moves to the governor’s desk for signature. Big-game season begins in Seneca County on November 21.
