Palmesano: State Hiring New Correction Officers
Deadline to apply for examination February 24
Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) today announced that the New York State Department of Civil Service will be offering a new examination for those interested in a career with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision as a correction officer.
“Correction officers provide a vital service to our communities. They are truly on the front lines of public safety. It takes someone with tremendous character to serve in this capacity, and I’m encouraging motivated residents to apply,” said Palmesano.
The examination will take place April 9, 2016. Prospective officers must file their application by February 24, 2016.
Palmesano noted that correction officers receive competitive compensation, including health care and retirement benefits. Trainees earn a salary of $40,590 per year. After six months, trainees receive $42,695. After completing the training program, officers earn $48,889.
“These positions are not just jobs, they’re careers,” said Palmesano. “Correction officers face a demanding challenge, but it is an excellent opportunity that I’m encouraging people in our community to consider.”
