Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) took to the podium at the New York State Library Association’s recent advocacy day in the capitol, affirming his commitment to generating needed funding and expressing his confidence in our libraries as valued institutions.

“Libraries are truly community resources. They allow us to explore new worlds using new technologies. They allow our young people to learn about our past and the timeless value of holding a book in your hands. Libraries are built on the intersection of tradition and innovation, shared history and common future. I am honored to be an advocate for our libraries,” said Palmesano.

“Local libraries are at the heart of every community in our state, and every patron has a unique story about how library services have enriched their lives. Our annual Advocacy Day is not only an important opportunity for people to communicate those stories with policymakers, but also to thank our friends who consistently fight for their constituents’ fair share of library funding. Assemblyman Palmesano’s dedicated leadership is tremendously appreciated, and I know everyone was excited to convey their gratitude,” said Mike Neppl of the New York Library Association.

Among the attendees at today’s rally were representatives from the Southern Tier Library System, The South Central Regional Library Council and the Finger Lakes Library System. Approximately 800 library directors, librarians, and library patrons traveled to Albany for Advocacy Day. About 350 were on hand for the rally.
