Volunteer firefighters form the backbone of our rural communities, and the risks they're exposed to can linger even after they emerge safely from a burning building. A recent study estimates that volunteer firefighters save local property taxpayers more than $3 billion annually. They deserve these protections. These brave men and women are there for us when we need them most, and it's important we're there for them when it comes to promoting their health and safety."
