Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C,I-Canandaigua) has appointed Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) to serve on the Assembly Committee on Education. This is a new opportunity for Palmesano.

Issues considered by the Assembly Education Committee include: proposed revisions to state aid formulas; legislation impacting the administration and operation of school districts, including New York City schools; school budgets and voting; safety and rights of pupils; required curriculum; teacher certification; education of handicapped students from ages 3 to 21; and election of members of the Board of Regents.

"Providing our kids with the best education possible should always be a top priority,” said Palmesano. “This starts with making sure we treat our parents as partners, our teachers as professionals and our students as individuals who can dream, believe and achieve anything they put their mind to accomplishing.”

“We can do this by making sure we provide the necessary resources in the classroom, letting our teachers use their creativity and ingenuity to spark the curiosity and help bring out the very best in our kids, and to ensure that our bright, young students don’t feel like their self-worth is measured by how they perform on a high-stakes standardized test,” said Palmesano.

In addition to serving on the Assembly Committee on Education, Palmesano remains in his role as the Ranking Minority Member on the Assembly Committee on Energy. He serves as vice-chairman of the Assembly Minority Conference. Palmesano also serves on the Assembly Committees on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions, Libraries and Education Technology and Tourism, Arts and Sports Development.
