Hawley Welcomes Pavilion/York Air Rifle Team to State Capitol, Honors Championship Season
Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C-Batavia) welcomed the Pavilion/York Air Rifle Team to the New York State Capitol in Albany yesterday, recognizing the student-athletes for their outstanding achievement as 2026 New York State Champions.
The team was honored in the Assembly chamber for capturing the state championship in the three-position event at the New York State Rifle Invitational in Orchard Park. Pavilion/York earned its place in the competition after winning both the Section V three-position and standing championships and went on to secure the state title with a program-record score of 1,143 points.
“It was a privilege to welcome these exceptional young athletes to the Capitol,” said Hawley. “I am incredibly proud of each member of this team and all the hard work they put in to achieve this milestone. Their dedication, teamwork and perseverance truly set them apart.”
Team members competing in the three-position event included seniors Cooper Harkins and Tyler Brian, and juniors Myra Beardsley, Emily Harwood and Jayden Harkins. The standing team featured senior Cooper Harkins, juniors Emily Harwood, Myra Beardsley and Jayden Harkins, and sophomore Jesse Brian. Additional contributors included Morgan Kidder, Levi Church and Brooke Berry.
The team also earned several individual honors at the state level. Tyler Brian and Emily Harwood each recorded their first perfect prone targets, while Myra Beardsley was recognized as the top kneeling shooter and overall champion in both the standing and three-position competitions.
“This team’s journey is just as impressive as their victory,” Hawley added. “From rebuilding the program just a few years ago to becoming state champions, their story is one of determination and resilience. They’ve made their schools and community incredibly proud.”
Hawley also commended Head Coach Jenny Harkins and the coaches and community members who helped guide and grow the program.
“Coach Harkins and everyone involved in this program have done an outstanding job supporting these athletes,” Hawley said. “Their leadership has made a lasting impact, and this championship is a reflection of that commitment.”
The team was recognized through an official proclamation on the Assembly floor, honoring their achievements and celebrating their success.
“I was honored to recognize these champions in Albany and congratulate them on an unforgettable season,” Hawley said.
