Hawley Honors Oakfield-Alabama Softball Team for Historic State Championship
Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C-Batavia) presented an official New York State Assembly proclamation to the Oakfield-Alabama High School Varsity Girls’ Softball team in recognition of the program’s historic 2026 New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Class D championship.
The Hornets captured the first state softball title in school history with a 4-1 victory over Windham-Ashland-Jewett in the Class D final at Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park in Binghamton. The championship capped an unforgettable season and marked the first team state championship in Oakfield-Alabama history.
“Winning a state championship is an incredible accomplishment, and I’m proud to recognize these outstanding young women for bringing home the first state softball title in school history,” said Hawley. “Their hard work, perseverance and commitment to one another throughout the season made this achievement possible. This team represented Oakfield-Alabama and Genesee County with class and sportsmanship. They have given their community something to celebrate for generations to come.”
Hawley presented the team with a formal New York State Assembly proclamation honoring the players, coaches and supporters who helped make the championship season possible.
